Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has commenced the installation of 2,500 traffic cones and 1,250 retractable bars on the roads as part of a concerted effort to improve traffic management.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the initiative is aimed at reducing road accidents and congestion by creating proper road channels. The metropolis is undertaking this task in collaboration with the metropolitan authority, traffic police, and relevant stakeholders.
Anukul Nidhi, an expert at the KMC Urban Planning Commission, explained that the procurement of these materials was delayed until the fiscal year 2081/82 due to procedural challenges, despite plans being made in the fiscal year 2080/81. The KMC anticipates that these measures will significantly aid in managing the city’s traffic.
Nidhi also noted that the traffic cones have a height ranging from 900 to 1,000 mm. These larger cones are expected to enforce discipline among drivers and discourage motorbike riders from moving them, contributing to
improved road safety and order.
