KMC Launches Mobile Lab to Test Over 24 Types of Food Products

Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is conducting quality tests on more than 24 types of products, including food, fruits, and vegetables, using its mobile laboratory.

According to National News Agency Nepal, KMC’s food technician Bharati Adhikari stated that the mobile lab was first utilized to test food products at the canteens of the Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital and Norvic Hospital in Thapathali. This initiative is part of an agreement between KMC and the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control aimed at ensuring food hygiene and quality.

The joint team from KMC and the Department is actively engaged in inspecting food businesses, conducting on-site testing, and analyzing food samples. The mobile laboratory is equipped with devices to examine pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables, a Milk Adulteration Kit, a lactometer, a water adulteration kit, and a pH meter, as explained by Shree Ram Neupane, the Department’s Food Quality Rest Officer.

The mobile lab facilitates the immediate testing of samples collected from the market, providing instant results. This initiative is part of KMC’s effort to monitor and ensure the quality of food services in the area.
