Koshi Province Assembly Passes Bill to Amend Provincial Acts

Koshi Province: The Koshi Province Assembly unanimously passed the ‘Bill to Replace the Ordinance for Amending Certain Provincial Acts-2081’ on Sunday. Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Rewati Raman Bhandari, presented the proposal seeking the endorsement of the Bill after no amendment proposal was registered and no Province Assembly members participated in the clause-wise discussion. The proposal was approved unanimously when Speaker Ambar Bahadur Bista presented it for the decision.

According to National News Agency Nepal, during the Special Hour of the Province Assembly meeting, parliamentarians expressed concerns over several contemporary issues. Indra Bahdur Angbo, the parliamentary party leader of the major opposition party CPN (Maoist Centre), accused the provincial government of failing to deliver services to the people effectively. He also claimed that the coalition government of CPN UML and Nepali Congress had not succeeded in achieving its common objectives, such as maintaining political stability, amending the constitution, and improving the country’s economic state.

UML’s parliamentary party’s Chief Whip, Bidur Kumar Lingthep, lamented that the victims of the Sankhuwasabha inferno were still without land ownership certificates. He urged the provincial government to expedite the issuance of these certificates to all victims promptly. Meanwhile, parliamentarians such as Meena Shrestha, Radha Krishna Khanal, and Geeta Devi Regmi, among others, raised their voices on pressing provincial issues during the zero hour of the meeting.

The Koshi Province Assembly meeting is scheduled to convene again on March 11 at 2:00 pm.
