KP Oli Cup Football Tournament: Machhindra Makes It Three in a Row


Kathmandu: Machhindra Football Club has won the KP Oli Cup Men’s Football Championship for a record third time, registering a hat-trick of victories in the club-wise tournament.



According to National News Agency Nepal, in the final match held at Dasarath Stadium in Tripureswar, Machhindra defeated Tribhuvan Army Club with a score of 2-0. The club initially took the lead in the 29th minute, courtesy of an own goal by TAC’s Bimal Pandey. Machhindra extended their lead in the 72nd minute when Stephan Jamaha Jali scored, securing the victory.



Machhindra’s triumph earned them the gold cup and a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 million, while the runner-up, Tribhuvan Army Club, received the runners-up cup along with Rs. 500,000 in cash.



Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, accompanied by his spouse Radhika Shakya, attended the final match at Dasharath Stadium. Former captain and goalkeeper of the Italian national football team, Gianluigi Buffon, graced the event as the chief guest.



The KP Oli Cup Football Championship, organized by the National Youth Association Nepal, commenced on February 23.
