Water Supply Minister Yadav and Jal Shakti Minister of India Sign MoU on WASH Development


New Delhi: Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav and Minister of Jal Shakti of India, CR Patil, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on the development of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). The MoU was signed at a special programme organized in New Delhi, representing the cooperative efforts between the Government of Nepal and the Government of India.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the MoU aims to expand cooperation in the areas of drinking water, sanitation, and waste management. The agreement is designed to develop drinking water sources, improve access to clean water, promote sanitation, and enhance waste management. The goal is to strengthen the efforts of the Government of Nepal in ensuring water security and enabling a safe environment for the populace.



The MoU outlines provisions for technology and training support to be provided to Nepal in areas such as underground water management, technology and information exchange, rainwater harvesting, and measurement and technology partnership. This initiative is aimed at fostering friendly cooperation between India and Nepal and acknowledging Nepal’s efforts in the sanitation sector.



Present at the occasion were Nepal’s Ambassador to India Shankar Prasad Sharma, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, and other dignitaries from both governments. These included Secretaries at the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Ashok Meena and Devshree Mukharjee, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Nepal Dr. Surendra Thapa, and several officials from the Ministry of Water Supply and the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management. Minister Yadav is scheduled to return to Nepal on Tuesday.
