Lawmaker Urges Government to Document US Assistance to Nepal

Kathmandu: Lawmaker Gokul Prasad Baskota has demanded the government prepare a report on the US assistance to Nepal. Speaking in the special hour of the House of Representatives on Sunday, lawmaker Baskota emphasized the necessity of a clear report on US assistance through its aid agency, embassy, and government to Nepal. He stressed the importance of documenting the subjects to which the aid is provided.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Baskota stated, “It is essential to make public the report on the US assistance to Nepal. Nepal’s international image and national sentiment must not be sullied.” He added the need for clarity on whether it is Nepal or the US government involved in any fraud related to the US aid to Nepal.

Furthermore, Baskota highlighted the need for Nepal to establish a clear policy on accepting foreign assistance to ensure judicious steps are taken in the future. He reiterated that it is imperative for the parliament and all citizens to be informed about the received assistance and its spending. Baskota is a lawmaker of the ruling CPN UML party.
