Lawyers and Journalists Clash in Janakpur Over Disputed Land

Janakpur: A group of lawyers attacked journalists in a dispute over the land leased from the Guthi Sansthan. Members of Nepal Bar Association Janakpur and members of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Madhes Province have clashed over the matter.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Shailendra Mahato, General Secretary of FNJ, Madhes Province, stated that the lawyers attacked them while they were trying to occupy the land leased by the FNJ from the Guthi Sansthan. The incident resulted in injuries to more than six journalists, including FNJ Provincial President Shyam Prasad Banjara, General Secretary Mahato, and journalist Diwakar Raya. The injured journalists are currently receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Janakpur.

The FNJ claims to have leased the land for four years, while the Nepal Bar Association, Janakpurdham, also asserts its claim over the same land. This conflicting claim has intensified the dispute between the two professional groups.

In an effort to resolve the conflict, a writ petition has been filed at the district court, and both parties have been summoned for a discussion on August 21. This meeting is anticipated to potentially address and resolve the ongoing dispute.
