Mymensingh: A court here today sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for a murder in Nandail upazila of the district in 2016. Additional District and Sessions Judge Ali Munsur handed down the verdict to Shahid Mia, resident of Mulli village of the upazila. Assistant public prosecutor Shamim ul Azam Khan said the court also fined him Taka one lakh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, convicted Shahid Mia kidnapped seven-year-old child Tasin from Mulli village on August 15, 2016, and demanded ransom from her parents. Later, being failed to realize the ransom, he strangulated the girl after two days and hid the body in a safety tank of a nearby house.
Tasin’s mother, Paulina Khatun, filed the murder case with Nandail Police Station in this connection. Police, after investigation, submitted a charge sheet against Shahid Mia and two others. The court acquitted Taher Uddin and Tahura Begum as allegations against them were not proved, the APP said.
