Kathmandu: Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Mahabir Pun, has called on teachers and employees of educational institutions to maintain a non-political stance.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Minister issued a press statement on Sunday emphasizing that while teachers have the right to form trade unions for collective representation and bargaining, these organizations should remain unaffiliated with any political party. He stressed that he would not acknowledge any teachers’ trade unions linked to specific political parties.
The Minister mentioned receiving several complaints from diverse sources about teachers, including those from universities, participating in political activities that violate the code of conduct. He argued that such involvement could detrimentally impact the quality of education.
Additionally, the Minister warned that teachers partaking in political activities against the code of conduct could face legal consequences.
