Mirza Fakhrul Inaugurates ‘Jago Bahe, Teesta Bachao’ Programme in Five Northern Districts


Rangpur: A two-day programme titled ‘Jago Bahe, Teesta Bachao’ commenced today along a 130-kilometer stretch across five northern districts on the banks of the Teesta River. The initiative demands the signing of the Teesta water sharing agreement with India and the implementation of a master plan to protect the river. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated the programme at the Teesta Railway Bridge adjacent char in Rangpur this afternoon.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the programme sees participation from BNP and its allies under the banner of the Teesta River Protection Movement. Activities include rallies, marches, and cultural performances at 11 points in the districts of Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Rangpur, and Gaibandha, all bordering the Teesta River. Notably, Rangpur district’s events are being held at the premises of Kaunia Railway Bridge and Gangachara Mahipur Bazar.



The BNP media cell further informs that the party’s acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, will join the programme virtually at the 11 points in the five districts tomorrow evening. Leaders from various political parties, including central leaders of BNP, have gathered on the banks of the Teesta to show their support and solidarity.



Present at various points of the rally were BNP Standing Committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Jatiya Party Chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider, Biplobi Workers Party General Secretary Saiful Haque, and Ganosamhati Andolon Chief Coordinator Jonayed Saki.
