Moral Values, Righteousness, and Yoga Emphasized as Society’s Backbone by President Paudel

Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel acknowledged the importance of moral values, righteousness, and yoga as the backbone of a civilized society. Addressing an award distribution ceremony organized by the Sarvodaya Sewashram in Kathmandu, President Paudel reiterated that these qualities are essential for building a stable, prosperous, and equitable society. “When a society upholds and reveres ethics, discipline, and honesty, it strengthens the foundation of peace, co-existence, and positive transformation,” he stated.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the President emphasized the importance of a deep connection between humans and nature, asserting that positive transformation could be fostered in society through yoga education, a healthy lifestyle, and humanitarian services. He commended the works of the Sarvodaya Sewashram in Lamjung, which has been active for over two decades and has instituted two awards: the Narakant Yoga National Award and the Bhairav Righteousness National Award.

These awards honor late Narakant Adhikari, a former bureaucrat known for integrity, and late Bhairav Prasad Upadhyay, a former Supreme Court Justice renowned for competency in judicial administration. President Paudel noted that the awards are a fitting tribute to their contributions.

On the occasion, President Paudel awarded Prof Dr. Bidhyanath Upadhyay with the Narakant Yoga National Award and former Chief Justice Khilaraj Regmi with the Bhairav Righteousness National Award. Prof Dr. Upadhyay was recognized for his contributions to education, yoga, and spirituality, while Regmi was acknowledged for his role in ensuring stability during a critical transitional period.

President Paudel presented both awardees with a cash amount of Rs 100,000 and a certificate of appreciation. The awardees expressed concern over declining moral values and called for reforms in moral education to promote discipline and ethics. Regmi announced plans to donate his cash prize to reward diligent students in his hometown, while Upadhyay emphasized collective efforts to promote yoga and moral conduct.

Krishnaraj Oliya, Chairperson of Sarvodaya Sewashram, shared that the organization actively promotes yoga education, human health, social service, and moral values.
