NA Vice Chair Ghimire Urges Climate Justice at HKH Parliamentarians’ Meet

Kathmandu: Vice Chairperson of the National Assembly, Bimala Ghimire, has said Nepal, as the country of Gautam Buddha, should spread a message of climate justice in the countries belonging to the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH).

According to National News Agency Nepal, Vice Chairperson Ghimire made these remarks while addressing the high-level parliamentary roundtable as part of the HKH Parliamentarians’ Meet-2025 in the federal capital on Tuesday. She emphasized that other countries can listen to the message not only of peace but also of climate justice, highlighting that climate change is a global issue affecting nations regardless of their size, location, or economic status.

Ghimire stressed the necessity of an integrated law to address this global concern. She asserted that it is an inherent human right to have access to clean air. The Vice Chairperson also spoke about the preservation and management of biodiversity in the HKH region to ensure its benefits. She emphasized that it is time to work on a common agenda to build a climate-resilient society and nature.

Furthermore, Ghimire highlighted the importance of establishing a regional forum for ongoing dialogue and discussions among the HKH countries on climate change and environmental issues. She suggested that sharing experiences and knowledge on climate change, biodiversity, and air pollution among these countries would foster collaboration and cooperation in tackling these challenges.

The session was also addressed by House of Representatives Members Yogesh Gauchan and Sobhita Gautam. Lawmakers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Bhutan also shared their views on the occasion.
