NTB Signs MoU with TikTok for Promoting Nepal’s Tourism

Kathmandu: The Nepal Tourism Board and TikTok have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote Nepal as one of the top tourism destinations of the world. The stories on Nepal’s tourism destinations and activities will be shared via TikTok.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the agreement seeks to leverage the popular digital platform, TikTok, to showcase Nepal’s natural landscape, cultural heritages, festivals, cuisine, and adventurous experiences to millions of digital audiences through audiovisual content.

During the MoU signing ceremony, Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, asserted that the newly signed agreement was not only a promotional event but a campaign to connect Nepal to the new digital generation. He expressed confidence that TikTok would be a useful platform to share stories of Nepal’s unique tourism destinations, appealing to the youth who seek real experiences before deciding to travel.

Minister Pandey emphasized tourism as a major pillar of the country’s economic development, believing that this partnership would directly benefit rural communities, small-scale entrepreneurs, and local guides. He noted that the partnership with TikTok has paved a path for Nepal to connect with the digital generation, highlighting the shift towards digital platforms as primary sources of information for travelers.

Similarly, NTB’s CEO Deepak Raj Joshi highlighted the importance of the agreement in showcasing Nepal’s beauty to the world. He noted that Nepal’s ongoing efforts in tourism promotion would be bolstered by TikTok’s global reach. Joshi argued that this collaboration would not only attract external tourism to Nepal but also provide an opportunity for the youth to portray their culture, festivities, and experiences in a new way.

As per the MoU, NTB will invite international travel content creators to Nepal and facilitate their travel to mountains, lakes, temples, and homestays to create digital stories and promote Nepal’s tourism through TikTok. Additionally, TikTok will conduct a workshop on digital storytelling in Nepal, training Nepali content creators on expanding audiences, brand collaboration, and delivering quality content on par with international standards.

TikTok’s Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia, Fardous Mottakin, expressed a similar view to Minister Pandey, stating that the partnership would contribute to promoting tourism in Nepal. He emphasized the honor of sharing a country like Nepal, rich in mountains, spirituality, and diverse cultures, with the world through short videos, expressing confidence that this partnership will help put Nepal on the travel list of tourists worldwide.

The promotional campaign will be executed in phases throughout the remaining months of 2025.
