Chitwan:The water level in the Narayani River reached an unprecedented height of 11.94 metres today, marking the highest level ever recorded at the Devghat hydrological station in Chitwan district.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Narayani Basin Field Office in Bharatpur confirmed that this is the highest water level recorded since measurements began at the station in 1963. The river swelled to 11.94 metres at 210 pm as reported by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
The warning level for the river is set at 7.30 metres, with 9 metres considered the danger threshold. Despite the water level falling to 11.75 metres by 340 pm, it remains significantly above the danger level.
Sumit Adhikari, Chief Hydrologist at the Narayani Basin Field Office, noted that today’s measurement is a record for the Narayani River, a major waterway in Nepal. He also warned of potential fluctuations in the water level as rainfall continues in the nearby hills.
The previous highest water level recorded was 11.6 metres on September 28, 2024, according to the Field Office records.
