National Action Plan for Monsoon Preparedness to Be Effectively Implemented

Kathmandu: The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has expressed its commitment to effectively implement the National Action Plan for Monsoon Preparedness and Response.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Bandhu Prasad Bastola, stated at a press conference that lessons from previous years will guide efforts to reduce damage this monsoon season. An effective disaster early warning system will be a key component, and coordination among relevant agencies for monsoon disaster preparedness and response will be improved.

Bastola highlighted the importance of delivering timely information to vulnerable groups, regions, and communities by strengthening the early warning system. The Authority estimates that approximately 2 million people could be affected by the monsoon this year.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has projected that most parts of the country will experience more than average rainfall during the monsoon, underscoring the importance of a proactive approach to disaster management.
