Kathmandu: The 15th of Ashoj in the Nepal calendar is marked as National Film Day every year. On this occasion, cine artistes, filmmakers, and individuals from the film industry celebrated the day across the country today with fervor and enthusiasm.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the National Film Day commemorates the historic day when the first Nepali film, ‘Aama’ (Mother), was screened on 15 Ashoj 2022 B.S. Film Development Board chairman Dinesh DC highlighted that filmmakers nationwide embraced the day as a festival. He stated, “Considering the historical aspect of this special day, we had proposed to celebrate Film Day every year on 15 Ashoj.”
The proposal was accepted by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and with the Cabinet’s decision, the day is now officially celebrated as Film Day. Although a formal program could not be held this year due to the Dashain festival, film artists expressed their happiness virtually, DC mentioned. Meanwhile, the event marks the completion of a six-decade journey for Nepali cinema.
