Kathmandu: More than 611 thousand people have left Kathmandu Valley for their homes for the Dashain festival during a period of nine days.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office reported that 611,657 people have exited the valley from various transit points during the nine days from Ghatasthapana, the first day of the 10-day Dashain festival on September 22.
In the last 24 hours alone, 58,396 people have departed from Kathmandu Valley. With the onset of the Dashain festival, the flow of citizens leaving the valley has been escalating rapidly. During this period, 13,326 passenger vehicles have exited the valley, as stated by Traffic Police Office spokesperson and Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi.
The total number of vehicles that have left Kathmandu Valley since Ghatasthapana has reached 113,415. Conversely, 319,015 people have entered the valley using 77,545 vehicles to date. Significant numbers of passengers are observed at checkpoints such as Koteshwor, Kalanki, Balkhu, New Bus Park, and Jagati.
