NBA Shows Exception to Probe Commission’s Report

Kathmandu: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has expressed reservation to the report of the Probe Commission-2082 formed to investigate the incidents occurred during the Gen Z Protest on last September 28-29.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the NBA has noted that the probe report has mentioned matters related to the judiciary, which they claim go beyond the commissioned scope of work in a condemnable manner. As a result, the NBA has called for an advisory committee meeting at 1.30 pm today to address these concerns.

“The report has come in a way that could negatively affect the judiciary and legal practitioners. We have reservation to the report. It would be seriously discussed among the law practitioners,” NBA general secretary Kedar Prasad Koirala told RSS. The NBA is particularly concerned about the report’s suggestions on eliminating anomalies like lawyers’ exorbitant fees and preventing justice from becoming a lawyer’s paradise, thereby making justice more accessible.

The report highlights that ordinary people in Nepal do not have adequate access to justice, suggesting that Nepali citizens are not in a position to easily access the legal system. It points out that for many, justice has become a distant reality due to financial and accessibility barriers. The cost of legal services is a significant concern, as the report indicates that even drafting a simple petition can be prohibitively expensive, potentially costing thousands.
