Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has asserted that the NC fully respects the dignity and rights of indigenous people in Nepal. Speaking at a program organized by an NC-affiliated organization of indigenous people to mark the 31st World Indigenous Day, President Deuba, who is also a former Prime Minister, emphasized that the rights of indigenous peoples are enshrined in Nepal’s constitution.
According to National News Agency Nepal, President Deuba highlighted that all castes and communities play a significant role in social change. He noted that achievements such as federalism, republic, secularism, and proportional inclusion have been further institutionalized by the new constitution. President Deuba also mentioned that the preamble of the constitution explicitly states the need to cease all forms of discrimination and oppression to achieve economic equality, prosperity, and social justice. He argued that these principles are actively being implemented.
President Deuba further stated that the NC is committed to preserving and promoting the culture of indigenous peoples to maintain a diverse system.
