Kathmandu: Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has emphasized the necessity for Nepal to formulate a long-term education policy that can be effective for the next four to five decades. He highlighted this need during an ‘education policy debate’ organized by the Nepali Congress central education department.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Deuba articulated the vision of transforming Nepal into a center of excellence for higher education. He stressed the importance of providing quality education from school to university, stating, “Education and health are our essential needs.” Deuba expressed hope that such debates would contribute to refining perspectives on making education more relevant to the current times.
Deuba reiterated that the development of the education system is a high priority for the Nepali Congress. He noted that the party should thoroughly study how to make the forthcoming education act more effective. He also pointed out that the program provided
a valuable platform to deliberate on why universities are experiencing a decline in student enrollment and emphasized the connection between education and skill development.
The event featured presentations from various experts, including Nainsing Mahar, Education Department Chief of Nepali Congress, contributing to a comprehensive discussion on the future of education in Nepal.
