Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has expressed Nepal’s deep appreciation for Australia’s steadfast friendship and ongoing development assistance, emphasizing its support for the country’s democratic and inclusive transformation. This statement came during a special reception hosted by the Embassy of Australia in Nepal, celebrating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Prime Minister Karki, who also serves as the Foreign Minister, highlighted the extensive partnership that has developed over the past six decades. This partnership now encompasses critical areas such as education, trade, development, and culture. The event also saw the launch of a commemorative book titled “65 Years Together,” published by the Association of Nepalese Alumni from Australia. The book underscores the timeline, dimensions, and depth of the people-to-people connections between Nepal and Australia, as detailed in a press statement from the Embassy.
The diplomatic relationship, established in 1960, has seen a significant expansion of the Nepali diaspora in Australia in recent years, further strengthening cultural and people-to-people ties. Nepalis in Australia actively contribute to the country’s multicultural society while maintaining strong connections with Nepal.
The two nations also work closely together in bilateral, regional, and multilateral platforms, including the United Nations. They share common objectives on climate action, sustainable development, gender equality, and peacekeeping, which reinforces their mutual commitment to global stability and prosperity.
