Newly-elected PR Lawmakers Receive Certificates at Election Commission Ceremony


Kathmandu: Lawmakers elected under the Proportional Representation (PR) system in the recent House of Representatives (HoR) elections received their certificates today at a ceremony held at the Election Commission’s central office in Bahadur Bhawan.



According to National News Agency Nepal, a total of 110 lawmakers were elected through the PR system. Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, along with Commissioners Dr Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and Sagun Shumsher J.B. Rana, welcomed the newly-elected lawmakers with tika and garlands. Election Commission Secretary and PR election officer Krishna Bahadur Raut was responsible for distributing the certificates to the elected representatives.



Under the PR system, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) emerged as the largest party with 57 lawmakers, followed by the Nepali Congress (NC) with 20 lawmakers. The CPN (UML) secured 16 seats, while the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) obtained nine seats. Additionally, the Shram Sanskriti Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) each secured four seats. The Election Commission had announced the PR election results on March 16.



In the First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) system, the RSP also led the tally with 125 seats, followed by the NC with 19 seats, UML with nine seats, and NCP with eight seats. The Shram Sanskriti Party secured three seats, the RPP obtained one seat, and one seat went to an independent candidate. As per constitutional provisions, the House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament, consists of a total of 275 members, including 165 elected through the FPTP system and 110 through the PR system.
