Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has mentioned that it was an irrelevant to expect a king in a federal democratic republic system of governance. At a programme organized by Nepal Chepang Association in the federal capital on Thursday, Minister Gurung stated that the call for a monarchy in the existing political system was meaningless.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Gurung, who is also the spokesperson of the government, emphasized that the federal republican system of governance was the best system for social development and national unity. He called on everyone to take maximum benefit of federalism, noting its significance as a great achievement for indigenous nationalities and marginalized communities.
Gurung urged marginalized communities to remain vigilant in taking advantage of the current governance system, which was established after a significant political struggle. He highlighted that the federal democratic republic system is a major achievement for indigenous nationalities and stressed the need to capitalize on the rights it ensures.
He further stated that the main basis of national unity is an inclusive and equitable society and emphasized that the state should be proactive in implementing inclusion.
The event also featured contributions from Member of the National Planning Commission Gita Poudel, Vice Chairman of the National Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities Ramesh Gurung, and Chairperson of the Association Govindaram Chepang, who shared their views on the rights of indigenous nationalities and related issues.
