Kalikot: The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) in Kalikot has transferred vital search, rescue, and first aid materials to the Emergency Operation Centre operated by Tilagufa municipality.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the materials provided include a washing machine, electric heater, water filters, stretchers, and first aid supplies. These resources are part of the Integrated Recovery and Disaster Risk Reduction Programme, supported financially and technically by the Luxembourg Red Cross.
The first aid supplies are designated for use in 11 schools within the municipality, while the washing machine, electric heaters, and water treatment devices are intended for the Rachuli municipal hospital. The handover was conducted by Kul Man Shahi, Treasurer of NRCS Kalikot, and Rabi Lamichhane, District Coordinator of the Integrated Recovery and Disaster Risk Reduction Programme, to Shankar Prasad Upadhyaya, Mayor of Tilagufa municipality.
This municipality, located along the Karnali highway, is identified as a high-risk area for disasters. Mayor Upadhyaya emphasized the role of Nepal Red Cross as a supportive partner during disasters and acknowledged the Luxembourg Red Cross’s contribution. Coordinator Lamichhane highlighted the project’s collaborative efforts with the municipality in enhancing drinking water and sanitation, institutional capacity development, and educational quality.
All 11 wards of the municipality are vulnerable to various disasters and health risks. The NRCS, with support from the Luxembourg Red Cross, has been implementing projects in drinking water and sanitation, small irrigation, health, livelihood, and education in partnership with the municipality. The Galje, Dalit Tole Badamwada, and Deurukh drinking water projects have already been completed, benefiting over 1,000 families from the poorest communities.
