NTA and Nepal Telecom Ink Deal to Launch Information Highway Project


Kathmandu:An agreement has been signed to implement the Information Highway Project, aiming to expand high-speed broadband internet services across 194 local levels in Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) and Nepal Telecommunications Company Limited (Nepal Telecom) finalized the agreement on Friday. The project focuses on enhancing telecommunications infrastructure and boosting digital access.



NTA chairman Arjun Ghimire and Nepal Telecom managing director Sangita Pahadi (Aryal) signed the agreement in the presence of Minister for Information and Communication, Dr. Bikram Timilsina. The project will receive a grant of up to Rs 2.01 billion from the Rural Telecommunication Development Fund and is scheduled to be completed within three years. It involves installing approximately 2,216 kilometers of optical fibers across the two provinces.



Minister Timilsina emphasized the project’s importance as a catalyst for digital development and instructed the authorities to adhere to the project’s timeline. The NTA has divided the project into three strategic packages to ensure efficient execution.
