Kathmandu: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar was damaged in the arson that occurred during the Gen-Z protests. Consequently, a new office is being prepared for the newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki in a different building.
According to National News Agency Nepal, security personnel, including the Nepal Army and civil servants, are actively working to set up the office. They are installing furniture and computers salvaged from the damaged OPMCM. These items are being relocated to a building originally constructed for the Ministry of Home Affairs in the northwest part of Singha Durbar, the country’s significant administrative block.
Since this morning, tables, chairs, sofas, and computers that survived the arson and vandalism at the former Prime Minister’s Office are being moved to the new location. Despite these efforts, the fire continues to burn in the western part of the main building of Singha Durbar, five days after the arson. Burnt vehicles, documents, and other materials are strewn across most of the ministry premises that were vandalized and set ablaze.
Meanwhile, in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, which experienced the most extensive damage, employees led by Secretary Chudamani Poudel have taken the initiative to clean and manage waste, even on Saturday, a public holiday. Vehicles of the ministry have been reduced to skeletons in the ministry’s premises, similar to other affected ministries.
Joint Secretary Shiva Kumar Sapkota, spokesperson of the ministry, has been involved in the cleaning efforts since 8 am. He stated that efforts are underway to conduct daily operations by deploying ministry employees for cleaning and waste management. “A team has been formed to assess the damage, and the work is expected to help restore the office to its original condition in areas without structural damage,” he said.
