Over 1.4 Million Taxpayers File Returns Online Through NBR

Dhaka: More than 1.4 million taxpayers have submitted their returns through the National Board of Revenue’s (NBR) online platform this year, with over 1.8 million taxpayers completing registration for e-returns.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the NBR’s online income tax return filing system has been met with a significant response from taxpayers. An NBR press release highlighted that the online return filing process has been gradually simplified, taking into account the demands and opinions of taxpayers to make it more user-friendly.

The NBR has committed to maintaining the online filing service throughout the year, beyond the designated Income Tax Day. However, taxpayers submitting returns after this day will not qualify for investment tax rebates or other exemptions as outlined in Section 76 of the Income Tax Act, 2023. Additionally, any unpaid tax amount will incur an additional tax of 2% per month, up to a maximum of 24 months, as specified in Section 174 of the same act.

The revenue board expressed gratitude to taxpayers who have utilized the online filing system and encouraged further use of online services for filing income tax returns and obtaining tax certificates.
