Over 63 Lawmakers Take Oath in Mother Languages in Nepal’s Parliament


Kathmandu: Of the total 275 House of Representatives (HoR) members, more than 63 lawmakers took their oath in their mother languages on Thursday. Senior most HoR member Arjun Narsing KC administered the oath to the other members at the federal parliament building, Singha Durbar.



According to National News Agency Nepal, HoR member Yagya Bahadur Bogati took the oath in the Achhami language, while Mohammad Ishtiyak Rae chose Abadhi. Akriti Awasthi and Dipak Bohara opted for Doteli, Ganga Chhantyal for Chhantyal, and Karisma Kathariya for the Kathariya Tharu language. Similarly, Nishcal Rai took the oath in Chamling, and Parshuram Tamang in the Tamang language. Several members, including Kant Chaudhari and Ashok Kumar Chaudhari, chose Tharu.



Those who took the oath in Nepalbhasa included Anushka Shrestha and Kulbhakta Shakya, among others. The Bajjika language was selected by Nitima Bhandari (Karki) and Rabin Mahato, while Ain Bahadur Mahar took the oath in Bajhangi. Madhav Raj Rai and Kanhaiya Baniya opted for Bantawa and Baniya languages, respectively.



The lawmakers who chose Bhojpuri were Arbinda Sah and Buddhi Prasad Pant. Renua Kaucha Magar selected Magar Kham, while Pramod Kumar Mahato and Raj Kishor Mahato chose Magahi. A significant number of members, such as Ankita Thakur and Asha Jha, chose Maithili for their oaths.



Kripa Ram Rana selected Ranatharu, while Purna Prasad Limbu and others chose Limbu. Khusbu Oli stood out by taking the oath in Sanskrit.



Initially, 62 lawmakers had registered for oath-taking in their mother languages, as stated by Assistant Spokesperson at HoR, Anant Prasad Koirala. However, the number increased later, and efforts to determine the exact count of languages used for the solemn declarations are ongoing.
