Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund Set Up to Rebuild After Gen-Z Protest

Kathmandu: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Kulman Ghising, has announced the establishment of the ‘Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund’ aimed at rebuilding structures damaged during the Gen-Z protest. At a program held at the Ministry, Minister Ghising emphasized the need for collective support in the reconstruction efforts, urging contributions from various sectors.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the fund is designed to address the reconstruction of damaged structures, provide relief and rehabilitation, and foster economic revival. Minister Ghising extended an appeal to federal, provincial, and local governments, as well as to the private sector, Nepali citizens, foreign nationals, Non-Resident Nepalese communities, neighboring countries, development partners, and international organizations to contribute significantly to this nation-building campaign.

The Gen-Z protest, marked by vandalism and arson, resulted in substantial loss of life and property, prompting the establishment of this fund. The government has also set up a physical infrastructure reconstruction committee to oversee these efforts. An international appeal has been made for support, underlining the urgency of restoring and reconstructing Nepal’s public assets.

Minister Ghising assured that the funds collected will be managed transparently. Contributions to the campaign can be made through Rastriya Banijya Bank, account no 1960100102070004, with the swift code ‘RBBANKA’.
