Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has directed Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal to conduct a thorough investigation into a tragic incident in Bardiya related to a citizenship issue. The incident involved a girl from Bhakari village of Badhaiyatal-4 in Bardiya district who took her own life due to her unsuccessful attempts to acquire citizenship, which subsequently led to the death of her 61-year-old father.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Prime Minister Karki expressed her distress over the incident through a social media post. The Prime Minister described the incident as a disgrace to society and the State, highlighting the judicial and administrative challenges as significant contributors to the unfortunate outcome. In her post, PM Karki extended an apology and emphasized her commitment to ensuring a thorough investigation by directing the Home Minister to delve deeply into the matter.
Furthermore, PM Karki reiterated her government’s stance against gender-based violence and discrimination, particularly concerning citizenship acquisition. She urged all stakeholders to work towards facilitating justice for everyone, underscoring her administration’s intolerance for such issues.
