Pokhara: The Pokhara Metropolitan City (KMC) has taken a significant step to support local agriculture by providing paddy seeds to farmers at a subsidized rate. This initiative aims to boost rice cultivation in the region, ensuring that farmers have adequate resources for a successful planting season.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Manohar Kadariya, the head of the Metropolitan City’s Agriculture Division, announced that 1,500 kilograms of paddy seeds have been distributed to farmers at a 50 percent subsidy. This effort is part of a broader strategy to enhance agricultural productivity and attract more farmers to engage in rice farming.
Kadariya further explained that various incentive programs have been introduced to make rice cultivation more appealing to farmers. Among these incentives is a financial provision where an amount of Rs 500 per ropani will be offered to the farmers this year. This financial support is expected to encourage more farmers to participate in rice cultivation.
Farmers in wards 14, 15, 26, and 27 of the Pokhara Metropolitan City have already started cultivating ‘chaitedhan’, or spring paddy. The initiative reflects the city’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and supporting local farmers in increasing their crop yield and income.
