Dhaka: Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Bangladesh University (BU), one of the leading private universities in the country. The President and the Chancellor of the University, Mohammed Shahabuddin, approved his appointment for the next four years as per section 31(1) of the Private University Act 2010, according to a BU press release today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Dr Md Jahangir Alam previously served as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor at BU. His extensive career began in 1983 at the Directorate of Fisheries, and he later joined the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute in 1985. At the institute, he held positions ranging from Scientific Officer to Chief Scientific Officer over 27 years.
In 2011, he transitioned to academia, joining Gazipur Agricultural University as a Professor. There, he also fulfilled roles such as Dean of the Faculty, Head of the Departments, and Director of International Affairs. His work in fisheries research earned him the National Award in 2009 for his significant contributions to research and technology development.
Throughout his career, Dr. Alam has made notable contributions to academia, with over 103 publications in various national and international journals, the press release stated.
