Kathmandu: President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the former Managing Director of Gorkha Media Network, Rabi Lamichhane, has been remanded to the District Prison, Rupandehi. Before being transferred to the prison, Lamichhane was held in the custody of the District Police Office, Rupandehi, for two days.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Lamichhane, who previously served as Home Minister, was presented to the District Court, Rupandehi, earlier today. Following the completion of necessary legal proceedings, he was sent to prison. District Prison’s administrator, Suresh Bhandari, stated that Lamichhane underwent medical checkups lasting approximately one hour before being placed in Block Number 4. He is currently housed in a separate structure within the prison.
Lamichhane was initially taken into custody from Kathmandu on Friday night and subsequently brought to Bhairahawa on Saturday morning. His imprisonment follows a decision by the High Court to overturn the District Court, Rupandehi’s verdict, which had granted him bail set at Rs 10 million.
He is facing charges related to the misappropriation of cooperative funds.
