Kathmandu: The Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resource Committee has successfully passed its report on the Bill to Amend Certain Nepal Acts relating to Land, 2082, as announced by the committee’s President, Kusum Devi Thapa. The bill was passed by a majority during today’s meeting, signaling a significant step in legislative amendments concerning land-related acts in Nepal.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the proposal to endorse the report received backing from members of the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), and the Nagarik Unmukti Party. However, the meeting saw a boycott from lawmakers representing the CPN (Maoist Center) and the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), indicating some level of contention regarding the bill.
Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation, Balram Adhikari, highlighted that the Ministry of Land Management in collaboration with the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs had introduced certain amendments to the report. These amendments are part of ongoing efforts to refine the legislative framework governing land use and management in Nepal.
Lower House members, Bir Bahadur Balai and Saraswati Subba, urged for the report’s endorsement, citing that extensive discussions had already occurred to address various concerns. However, there remains some disagreement as lawmakers Rupa Sosi Chaudhary and Ashok Chaudhary requested additional time to submit a dissenting proposal. They raised concerns over the removal of certain phrases from the report without prior notification, which they believe warrant further examination.
