Palpa: Resident doctors studying at the Lumbini Medical College in Palpa have submitted a three-point memorandum to Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, demanding remuneration equal to eighth-level medical officers.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the resident doctors have requested the Minister to ensure that MD, MS, and MDS resident doctors at private medical colleges receive salaries on par with those of the government’s eighth-level medical officers. They also called for a correction in the matching process for MD, MS, and MDS programs.
Additionally, the resident doctors have urged the formation of a drafting committee to establish a Master’s Programme Operation Procedure. This procedure would address working hours, leave policies, remuneration, examination transparency and impartiality, and the creation of a separate regulatory body.
Dr. Deepak Kandel of LMC stated that the resident doctors have decided to halt work until their demands are met. The ongoing agitation has impacted health services at the hospital, as noted by the Hospital Administration.
Minister Paudel, upon receiving the memorandum, indicated that most of the resident doctors’ demands have been addressed and assured that the remaining issues would be resolved promptly. He mentioned that private medical colleges have been instructed to implement the government’s decisions regarding these matters.
