Dhaka: A court here today placed five individuals, including Salman F Rahman, former private industry affairs adviser to the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, and former law minister Anisul Huq, on different terms of remand in connection with two separate murder cases filed at the Jatrabari Police Station.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman issued the orders as police presented the five accused in court, requesting their remand for further investigation. The other three individuals remanded are Hasanul Haque Inu, Rashed Khan Menon, and former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
The five accused were each placed on a five-day remand for a case involving the killing of Jisan during the anti-discrimination student movement. Additionally, Anisul, Menon, and Inu were subjected to another five-day remand in a separate case related to the murder of Mehedi Hasan.
Jisan and Mehedi were reportedly shot and killed by police and Awami League cadres on July 20 and July 18, respectively, as they participated in anti-discrimination student movement rallies in the Jatrabari area.
