Social Networks Must Comply with Nepali Law Says NC Vice President Gurung

Kathmandu: Nepali Congress Vice President Dhanraj Gurung has emphasized the necessity for social networks to operate within the framework of Nepal’s laws. Speaking at the inauguration of the special convention of the Employees Union at Food Management and Trading Company Limited, Gurung asserted that social media platforms must not function outside legal boundaries.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Gurung recalled his tenure as Law Minister when TikTok was banned in Nepal until it complied with registration requirements, after which it was permitted to resume operations. He highlighted the global norm of requiring social media platforms to be registered before they are allowed to operate, underscoring the significance of this practice.

The former minister also noted that a regulated approach to social media operation is crucial for safeguarding national needs and interests.
