Sunmaya Budha Secures Second Place in Trail Running World Championship


Kathmandu: Nepal’s Sunmaya Budha has emerged as the first runner-up in the women’s category of the Trail Running World Championship held in Spain. This achievement is considered a significant milestone for Nepal.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the Nepali runner completed the 81-kilometer trail run in 10 hours, 23 minutes, and 3 seconds, securing the second position. Sunmaya was 26 minutes behind the American ultrarunner Katie Schide, who won the gold medal in the Long Trail race at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships.



The event was organized by the World Mountain Running Association in collaboration with the World Athletics and the International Association of Ultra Runners. The championship attracted over 1,700 athletes representing 80 countries.



On behalf of Nepal, Sunmaya Budha, Suman Kulung, Sange Sherpa, and Man Kumar Roka participated in the event, facilitated by the Nepal Adventure Running Federation. Suman Kulung and Man Kumar Roka completed the race securing 32nd and 36th positions, respectively.
