Super Kabeli ‘A’ Hydropower Project Boosts Power Supply in Taplejung.


Taplejung: The Super Kabeli ‘A’ Hydropower Project has formally started power generation. The project, with a capacity to generate 13.5 MW of electricity, is developed by Snow Rivers Limited and is located at Yamphudin, Sirijangha Rural Municipality-8 in Taplejung district. The power generated from this project has been integrated into the national grid via the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA)’s 32-kVA Amarpur substation, which is situated 31 kilometers from the powerhouse at Yamphudin.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the project’s public relations officer, Meghnath Dhungana, confirmed that the power produced from the project was transmitted to the national grid following one week of successful test production. The project was constructed with an investment of two billion 632 million and 900 thousand rupees, with construction commencing in the second week of December 2022.

The completion of the Super Kabeli ‘A’ Project brings the total number of hydropower companies in the district to eight. The d
istrict’s largest operational project is the 73-MW capacity Middle Tamor Hydropower Project, developed by Sanima Hydro Company. Additional significant projects in the area include the 25MW-capacity Kabeli ‘B-1’ and the 10MW-capacity Kabeli ‘B-1’ Cascade Project, both operated by Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company.

Currently, more than 18 hydropower projects are under construction in Taplejung. The completion of these projects is expected to further expand power production in the district, contributing to the region’s energy supply and infrastructure development.
