Kathmandu: Nepal has laid emphasis on expanding mutual cooperation and collaboration during the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) held in Turkmenistan.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during a press conference organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Department of Information and Broadcasting, it was shared that countries like Nepal had advocated for additional support from development partners to aid landlocked nations. This announcement followed the return of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli from the conference.
Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai highlighted that the ‘Aawaja Programme of Action’ will act as a cornerstone for transforming a landlocked country’s development and prosperity. The initiative aims to transition these countries from being landlocked to trade-competitive and from being climate vulnerable to climate resilient.
He further mentioned that during the conference, Prime Minister Oli, who led the Nepali delegation, clarified that Nepal is actively working to expand cross-border connectivity. This includes the construction of smart infrastructure, the expansion of highways and railways, the development of trade routes, and the establishment of green energy corridors.
It was also reported during the press conference that Prime Minister Oli appealed to neighboring countries, development partners, and donor agencies to extend additional support to Nepal’s development efforts.
