Twenty-Four Climbers Obtain Permits for Mt Dhawalagiri Ascent

Myagdi: Twenty-four mountaineers have secured permits to climb Mt Dhawalagiri during the autumn climbing season of 2025. This peak, standing as the world’s seventh highest at 8,167 meters, is located in Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-4 of Myagdi.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the Department of Tourism has collected a royalty of Rs 5 million 71 thousand from climbers granted permission for the Dhawalagiri ascent. Foreign mountaineers aiming to conquer 8,000-meter peaks other than Mt Everest during the spring season are required to pay a royalty fee of 900 USD per individual. Meanwhile, the climbing royalty for smaller peaks ranges between 125 USD and 400 USD.

This autumn, 374 people have received permits to climb Mt Manaslu, which stands at 8,163 meters in Gorkha, as reported by the Department. Mt Manaslu continues to be a preferred choice for climbers during the autumn season, with Dhawalagiri attracting the second-highest number of permit holders.

Mountaineers, along with Sherpas, guides, porters, and support staff, have begun arriving at the base camp, according to Hari Prasad Tilija, a ward member of Dhawalagiri-4 and proprietor of a hotel at the Italian base camp. This season, expedition teams have opted to approach the base camp via Marpha in Mustang and Yak Kharka, due to the damaged and distant route through Mudi Bagar of Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality.
