Kathmandu: Two individuals, who had been on the run after a red corner notice was issued by INTERPOL for allegedly cheating people, have been arrested in Cambodia and subsequently returned to Nepal.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Binu Shakya, a resident of Mankha in the Sindhupalchowk district, was apprehended with the assistance of INTERPOL’s Cambodia bureau. He was brought back to Nepal to face charges, as confirmed by Dan Bahadur Karki, the spokesperson for the Nepal Police and Deputy Inspector General. Shakya had allegedly defrauded over 40 individuals of Rs 52 million by promising them employment opportunities in Singapore.
The INTERPOL red corner notice, which was issued on February 2, 2024, came after the Nepal Police Crime Investigation Department Interpol Branch requested assistance in locating and arresting Binu Shakya and Sujan Acharya, who is from Triyuga municipality-10 in Udayapur district. Both individuals were detained in Cambodia on September 17, 2024.
