Two sentenced to jail in separate rape cases in Naogaon

A court here today sentenced a man to life-term

imprisonment and another one to 14 years jail in two separate rape cases

filed in the district.

Mehedi Hasan Talukder handed down the verdict to Abdus Salam, 50, hailed from

Uttor Durgapur village in Dhamoirhat upazila and Sumon Hossain, 25, a

resident of Chak Chapai village in Nagaon sadar upazila.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that on June 5 in 2019 the convict Abdus

Salam seduced a minor girl and brought her at his house at Uttor Durgapur

village and raped her there.

Following the incident, victim’s father filed a case with Dhamoirhat Thana.

Police pressed the charge-sheet accusing him later.

Testifying witnesses and evidences the court sentenced Abdus Salam to life-

term imprisonment. The court also fined him Taka 50,000, in default, to

suffer three-month more in jail.

Besides, in another case, the court sentenced Sumon Mia to 14 years jail as

he abducted a 12-year old girl in front of Vashnagar Malongsha Dimukhi

Madrasa on August 13 in 2022 and raped her.

After the incident, the girl’s brother filed a case with Naogaon Sadar Thana,

said special Public Prosecutor (PP) Md Mokbul Hossain.

The court also fined Sumon Taka 50,000.
