UML’s Senior Vice-Chair Iswar Pokharel Announces Candidacy for Chair

Kathmandu: Senior vice-chair of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), Iswar Pokharel, has announced his candidacy for the post of the chairperson of the party in the upcoming 11th national general convention. Issuing a statement, he emphasized his contributions to the party-building process as the basis for his candidacy. “I have announced my candidature for the party presidency for party reorganization and transformation after listening to the urges and suggestions of the party colleagues across the country,” he stated.

According to National News Agency Nepal, Pokharel expressed his commitment to develop the UML as a decisive national political force through collective leadership. He emphasized the importance of delegating responsibilities to party leaders and cadres based on their qualifications, capacity, and interests.

The CPN (UML) is set to hold its general convention in Kathmandu from December 13-15. Delegates for the general convention will be selected from both domestic and international locations on November 29. Pokharel has called on all party members to participate actively and freely in the delegate selection process without fear.

Pokharel highlighted the shared responsibility of all party members to prioritize the welfare of the nation and its people while safeguarding the party. He argued that only a party with strong internal democracy can effectively build and lead a democratic society. Additionally, he mentioned that he would soon present an extended document outlining his political and organizational perspectives for the general convention.
