Kathmandu: Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav has made a significant appeal to the Qatari government, urging them to implement a 24-hour insurance policy for Nepali workers residing in Qatar. This request was made during a meeting held at the Vice President’s Office in Lainchaur, where Qatari Ambassador to Nepal Mishaal Bin Mohamed Ali Al-Ansari was in attendance.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Vice President emphasized the critical need for assistance to be provided to Nepali workers in various hospitals, deportation centers, and prisons across Qatar. He highlighted the plight of 67 Nepalis currently serving prison sentences in Qatar, many of whom lack official documentation. The Vice President called upon the Qatari government to consider granting amnesty or commuting prison terms, as well as facilitating the regularization of undocumented Nepalis or their return to Nepal.
Furthermore, Vice President Yadav expressed his appreciation for Qatar’s efforts in mediating the release of Nepali
citizen Bipin Joshi and other hostages in Palestine. This sentiment was communicated by the Vice President’s Press Coordinator, Dinesh Yadav.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ansari reiterated the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Nepal and Qatar. He expressed his support for promoting investment opportunities in Nepal and acknowledged the presence of approximately 400,000 Nepali workers in Qatar. The Ambassador assured that efforts would be made to prioritize the welfare of Nepali workers in the country.
