Wind Energy Centre in Rudrapur Remains Inoperative Due to Maintenance Delays.

Rudrapur: The Wind Energy Centre, once a pioneering project situated in Dhauwadi Danda of Hupsekot rural municipality-5 in Bardaghat Susta East, has been lying idle due to a lack of necessary repairs and maintenance.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the project, which was inaugurated in 2068 BS with the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), incurred costs amounting to Rs 2 million. Despite its promising start, the facility has been rendered inoperative primarily due to turbine maintenance failures and the urgent requirement for battery replacements.

Ward Chair Padam Bahadur Rana Magar explained that during its operational phase, the project was capable of generating 10 kilowatts of electricity each day, functioning at its full capacity for several years. This underscores the project’s potential and the importance of restoring it to its former functionality.

Rural Municipality Chair Laxmi Devi Pandey expressed frustration over the lack of response to their ongoing appeals to the Alternative E
nergy Promotion Center for the restoration of the project. “They promised to send a technical team to assess the situation, but nothing has happened so far,” she remarked, highlighting the challenges faced by the local government due to budget constraints in addressing the issue.
