Yomari Festival to Commence in Dharan with Traditional Dance and Cuisine

DHARAN: The Newa Deya Dabu is set to host the fifth edition of the Yomari festival in Dharan, starting Saturday, featuring a three-day celebration of traditional Nepalese culture, including the Dhime dance and the preparation of yomari, a delicacy made from rice flour and sesame seeds.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the announcement was made during a press conference on Wednesday, where Central Vice-President Anil Maskey shared details about the festival. He highlighted that 200 artists would participate in the event, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Nepal language-speaking community.

The festival, deeply rooted in tradition, involves the preparation of yomari, a special bread made from rice flour and filled with sesame seeds, which is customarily offered to deities and consumed as prasad during Yomari Purnima. The event aims to celebrate and preserve these unique cultural practices and provide a platform for artists to perform the traditional Dhime dance, a core component of Newar cul
ture.
