Kathmandu: Indian Rupee currency notes of 200 and 500 denominations can now be carried up to 25,000 INR. The government has made arrangements to allow Nepali and Indian citizens to bring into the country and take to India a maximum of 25,000 INR of these denominations. The currency notes to be allowed to use should be those issued since November 9, 2016. Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel shared that the decision was taken at a cabinet meeting held today.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the decision comes as a significant move to facilitate smoother financial transactions between Nepal and India. This development is expected to ease monetary exchanges and boost economic activities involving the two countries. The adjustment aligns with the existing policies regarding currency circulation and international financial interaction, ensuring compliance with national and international regulations. The Indian currency notes, particularly those issued post-demonetization in 2016, hold specific security features and designs that are recognized and accepted by both nations.
By enabling the carrying of these denominations, the government aims to enhance cross-border trade and travel convenience, benefiting citizens of both countries who frequently engage in business or personal travel.
