Khulna: Khulna University (KU) at its campus here today observed the 89th birth anniversary of the founder of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. To mark the occasion, the KU administration organized a doa mehfil at the university’s central mosque following Zohr prayers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was attended by several notable figures, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Rezaul Karim, Treasurer Professor Nurunnabi, Professor Mahmudul Hassan, Professor Nazmus Sadat, and Registrar Professor Mahbubur Rahman. During his speech, Professor Rezaul Karim highlighted the challenges faced by the Zia family over the last 17 years. He pointed out specific instances of alleged discrimination, such as the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, her eviction from the Mintu Road residence, and her denial of improved medical treatment.
Professor Rezaul Karim also paid his respects to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, acknowledging his contributions as a prominent statesman, the proclaimer of independence, a supporter of multi-party democracy, the commander of the Z Force during the Liberation War, and a proponent of Bangladesh’s nationalist philosophy.
