Dhaka: Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin today emphasized the need for ensuring proper enforcement of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009. He made this statement while chairing the 28th meeting of the National Consumer Rights Protection Council held at the conference room of the Directorate of the National Consumer Rights Protection here, an official release said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bashir put emphasis on making the common people more aware of consumer rights. He stated, “If the consumers can be aware of their rights, then desire will develop among themselves to get those.” He highlighted that the proper enforcement of the consumer rights protection law is essential to secure everyone.
Bashir underscored that every citizen has a liability to society and should be aware of their due responsibilities and duties in this regard. He also suggested the inclusion of concepts on consumer rights and the enhancement of morality in the academic curriculum, if necessary.
The meeting was attended by Commerce Secretary (routine charge) Md Navid Shafiullah, Director General of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection Md Abdul Alim Khan, FBCCI Administrator Md Hafizur Rahman, Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) General Secretary Md Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan, Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) Director General SM Ferdous Alam, and a representative of the Directorate General of Drug Administration.
